CREMELLO COLOR DEFINED -
Cremello horses have two copies of the cream gene making them homozygous cream. Heterozygous cream horses have one cream gene copy making them palomino, smokey black or buckskin. Cremello horses have a VERY pale chestnut base color and blue eyes with a cream color mane and tail. Their skin is pigmented but very slightly. Perlinos are double cream bay horses and have a reddish tint to their mane and tail. These are NOT white horses. True white horses have no color pigment. At one time cremello color horses were barred from registration due to the belief that they were genetic anomalies and considered "albino" or "lethal white" with potential genetic abnormalities. Now that there has been proven links of the cream gene to the palomino and buckskin coat colors these homozygous cream horses are now understood and accepted in many breed registries. Interestingly, Arabians have no cream dilution gene nor do some of the strict coat color horses like Fresians.
I plan to get a good photo of Ace's eye so you can learn the difference between a blue eye due to lack of pigment as in a blue eye paint horse and a blue eye with pigment as in the cremello and perlino horses. When people meet Ace one of the first things they say is look at his eyes". They take some getting used to when you've seen dark horse eyes all your life!
